The TamilNadu Mutharaiyar Sangam appealed to the Central and state governments to undertake caste based census during the current year itself, and before the completion of the census, the Tamil Nadu Government should not give exclusive reservation to any caste in job and educational opportunities.
Sangam’s State Organizing committee President Maru.Baskaran said in a release on Sunday that a resolution to this effect was adopted at the Sangam’s district executive committee meeting held at Tiruchy on Friday, under the leadership of district vice-President Rajamanickam.
He also wanted that Mutharaiyar and its sub castes should be enlisted in the Scheduled Tribe list and President of India and the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment should made their views in this connection as TN Government's proposal was kept in abeyance for the past 8 months. The meeting appealed to the TN Minister for Backward Class Welfare to clear this pending file immediately, otherwise the Sangam will come out with an agitation, he warned.
The meeting also requested the CM M.K.Stalin to give official, non official and party postings to the Mutharaiyar community people who are in ruling DMK and others who did not have any political colour, and also requested him to declare open the Perumbidugu Muthiraiyar memorial coming up at Tiruchy.
Office bearers of the district Govindaraj, Srirangan, Ranagaraj, Viswanathan, Vadamalai Kavinger Loganathan, Kanthiah Periya Gopal and Thirupathi and others spoke. Earlier District secretary Manivel welcomed the gathering while district treasurer Moorthi proposed a vote of thanks.
