In a groundbreaking medical achievement, Naruvi Hospital in Vellore successfully performed a highly complex head surgery on a 55-year-old man from Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh. The surgery, reported to be among the first of its kind in India, lasted eight hours and led to the patient’s full recovery.
Dr. GV Sampath, Chairman of Naruvi Hospitals, praised the team of neurosurgeons, cardiac surgeons, and anesthetists for their expertise. The patient, Mr. Murali, was admitted in an unconscious state with severe head swelling. After careful evaluation, doctors determined that a critical surgery was needed to restore normal blood flow.
A team led by neurosurgeon Dr. Paul Henry, along with Dr. Boopesh Pugazhendhi, Dr. Sivakumar, cardiac surgeon Dr. Vinayak Shukla, Dr. Ray George, and anesthetists Dr. Saravanan and Dr. Rajasekar, carried out the procedure. During surgery, the patient’s blood was diverted through a heart-lung machine while his body was cooled to 18°C to protect the brain. Once the procedure was completed, the patient’s body was gradually warmed, and normal circulation was restored.
Following a successful recovery, Murali resumed his daily routine. Expressing gratitude, he said, “The doctors at Naruvi Hospitals gave me the best possible treatment, and I am now back at work.” Dr. Sampath emphasized that this achievement reinforces Naruvi Hospital’s commitment to advanced medical care in India.
