Nirmala College for Women celebrated its 73rd Annual Sports Day with enthusiasm, showcasing athletic excellence, teamwork, and cultural performances on campus. The week-long event, meticulously organised by the college administration, featured a wide range of intramural games, track and field events, and special tournaments for faculty and staff.

Dr. JP Desiga Srinivasan, Deputy Director of Physical Education at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, motivating students to excel in both academics and sports. Special invitees PR Muniappan, Former District Weightlifting Secretary, and T Nandakumar, Senior Joint Secretary of the District Athletic Association, also attended. Additionally, Dr. Pawlin Vasanthi Joseph and Dr. Sudha Sharma, who are retiring this year, were honoured for their dedicated service.

The competitions included throw ball, volleyball, kabaddi, 100m, 400m, 3000m races, long jump, shot put, discus throw, and a 4x100m relay. Fun activities like balloon break, hoops run, and obstacle races added excitement. Faculty members participated in throw ball matches, while non-teaching staff engaged in special events.

The final day featured cultural performances, including traditional kummi, kolattam, lesiem, and oilattam dances. Students also performed a march past and a pyramid formation. A lucky corner event added an element of surprise for the guests.

The celebration concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, recognising outstanding student athletes who have excelled in weightlifting, football, athletics, kho-kho, volleyball, and taekwondo at international, national, and state levels. The event highlighted the college’s commitment to holistic education and sporting excellence.
