Programmes implemented by the Department of Backward Classes and Minority Welfare were reviewed at the Erode District Collectorate by S. Sureshkumar, Director, Minorities Welfare Department.
He said various schemes are being implemented by the Department including District Muslim Women's Aid Society, the Christian Women's Aid Society, the Ulamas and Staff Welfare Board, a programme to provide two-wheelers to scholars registered with the Waqf Welfare Board, funding for pilgrimages to Jerusalem, repairing churches, scholarships, and Tamco loan.
He advised urgent action should be taken to provide 100 per cent Corona vaccination to students from backward classes and minorities staying in welfare hostels. Books worth Rs. 1.25 lakhs have been provided to college students staying in hostels in Erode district to prepare for the competitive exams.
In addition, special guide books have been provided to 10th and 12th class students staying in welfare hostels.Sewing machine with motor and iron boxes will be provided to eligible beneficiaries soon. He said officials have been instructed to open bank accounts for students under the Rural Girl Education Incentive Scheme.
