Olympiad: district level chess meet begins

A 2- day district level chess competitions was inaugurated by Erode Corporation Commissioner K Sivakumar at the Kongu matric school, Erode on Saturday  to commemorate the forthcoming 44th Olympiad to be held by the state government from July 28 to August 10 at Mamallapuram.  

The AICF Erode district schools chess selection tournament for boys and schools was organised by Erode District Chess Circle, registered under the TN State Chess Association. Kongu Kalvi Nilayam, correspondent  K. Selvaraj, president  M Chinnasamy, principal Nathiya Arvindh and EDCC secretary Dr S Ramesh presided over the function. 

Ramesh said over 130 students, below the age of 15, were attending the meet and 3 boys and 3 girls among best performers would be sent to Mamallapuram at the expenses of the government to witness the Olympiad there for 3 days. The boarding and lodging would be free for them.  Besides, 50 students would be given prizes for them,  he added.
