One more elephant died due to illness in the district. During the routine patrol in the Karadimadai division of Madukkarai forest reserve, forest guards spotted a woman elephant that was unwell. Subsequently, the elephant was monitored for health improvements. Based on the directions of the Chief conservator of forests, and field director of Anamalai tiger reserve, a veterinarian was brought in to treat the elephant on Friday evening. Despite efforts, the elephant died on Saturday at 11:55 am. The veterinary doctor performed a post-mortem on the body of the animal in the presence of volunteers led by the assistant conservator of forests.
