Online Rummy Ban:Will the Governor approve?

Online Rummy Ban:Will the Governor approve?

In Tamil Nadu, suicides due to loss of money due to online rummy game is becoming a recurring story. Due to this, the Tamil Nadu government continuously received requests from various quarters to ban this game. Especially Dr. Ramadoss, the founder of PataliMakkalKatchi (PMK), was constantly insisting on giving up.
Following this, the Tamil Nadu government set up a committee headed by retired Madras High Court justiceChanduru to study the impact of online rummy. The team studied online gaming, its potential, its disadvantages, and its potential financial loss.

The committee submitted its report to Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on June 27. The report was placed before the Cabinet on the same day.Thereafter, based on the feedback received, a draft ordinance was prepared in consultation with the Legal Department. The draft of this Ordinance was placed before the Cabinet meeting held on August 29. In the meeting, it was informed that the ordinance would be further polished and refined and placed back in full form before the Cabinet.Following this, the cabinet has approved this emergency law. Further, the Tamil Nadu government has informed that this emergency law will be approved by the Tamil Nadu Governor and will be implemented soon.

Now, with 21 bills already pending before the Governor, will he approve the Online Rummy Ordinance? The question has been raised in the political circles. Yet the Online Rummy Ban Act is framed with a social concern in mind. The cabinet approved this Prohibition Act keeping in mind that not even one life should be lost due to online rummy. The Governor and Chief Minister would never want lives to be lost and families to be torn apart.
Chief Minister M.K.Stalin completed his duty on Tuesday and sent the bill for Governor's assent. So the people of Tamil Nadu believe that the governor will approve this law very quickly.  Governor R.N Ravi should give his assent to the Online Gambling Prohibition Ordinance as soon as possible. The bill should be brought and passed in the session of the Legislative Assembly to be held next month.  Governor, this is the unanimous expectation of Tamil Nadu government and Tamil people. Nobody says gambling is good. Good luck!
