Orange alert issued to Coimbatore

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert to Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts for the next three days, starting Saturday.  With the onset of the southwest monsoon, heavy rain is expected to lash the districts.   While an orange alert has been issued for the district on Saturday, a red alert has been issued for Sunday and Monday.  Heavy rains are predicted in the hilly regions of the district.  As a precautionary measure, the state disaster response team from Arakkonam reached the city on Saturday. Furthermore, the district collector Pavankumar K Giriyappanavar chaired a monsoon preparedness meeting with all departmental officials at his office in the city.
