Over 3,000 people attended the event organized by lead banks

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday distributed loans worth Rs 3,749 crore to beneficiaries during an event that was organized by the lead bank at Codissia trade fair complex in the city.

In the event, the minister distributed loans worth Rs 3,749 crore under prime minister employment generation programme, yojana scheme, jan dhan yojana scheme, crop insurance scheme and Suraksha bima yojana scheme among others to women, youths, entrepreneurs, women self help groups and farmers among others.

After one of the beneficiaries, Sathish claimed that he did not receive the loan, tension prevailed at the event. The minister called him to the stage and inquired his concern. When he said that he cannot avail loan despite approaching banks multiple times, the minister assured him of taking necessary steps.

Sitharaman visited the union government’s defense research centre located at the premises. AIADMK MLAs Pollachi Jayaraman, AK Selvaraj and Amul Kandasamy, BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, union government secretary Joshi and bank officials attended the event. More than 3,000 people attended the event which was organized by lead banks Canara bank and Indian overseas bank  

Pollachi Jayaraman said, “It is our pride that a Tamil-speaking person has been elated to the post of finance minister. Coconut sales have come down in Pollachi, Kinathukadavu and Anaimalai and price has dropped in the last 2.5 years. We have escalated the issue to the minister. We have requested her to take steps to appoint an IAS officer to improve the decreased export of coconut.”
