Over 700 donates hair to Cancer Patients

Over 700 persons donated hair to help cancer patients to get wig at a function arranged by Unarvugal, an NGO, of Erode.The NGO head Dr Makkalrajan, who tonsured his head and donated the hair, during the event said ''the function is first of its kind arranged in the district and by the NGO. In general, the cancer patients would suffer with hair falling.

It would cause mental  agony to them, apart from physical pain. So, to help them to some extent to come out of the complex of baldness, the hair donation was arranged. Many women came personally and donated 15 cm of hair.  Some tonsured their head to give entire hair. Some from Tirupur and Rameswaram also donated.

The hair would be sent to the Adyar cancer hospital and the Erode cancer hospital would take steps to process the hair  and make it as wigs which could be given to needy cancer patients. World Book of Union officials came and certify the event as world record.

The event was arranged to create awareness among public on hair donation to help cancer patients''. Over 40 members of the NGO coordinated the event. Corporation mayor Nagarathinam, commissioner Sivakumar and Erode cancer hospital head Dr Velavan attended.
