Plan to double cable TV connections under TACTV Corpn

It is planned to double the cable TV connections within one year under the government owned TN Cable TV Corporation (TACTV), Kurinji Sivakumar, Chairman of the corporation told reporters in Erode.

During the last AIADMK regime, the firm had incurred a loss of Rs 400 crore.  Since the DMK came to power last year, the loss has been reduced by Rs 50 crore.

Eight lakh set-top boxes  went missing in Tamil Nadu during the last AIADMK regime.  Three lakh set-top boxes have been recovered from cable TV operators and steps were are  steps were taken to recover the remaining five lakh boxes by sending notices or money for it from the operators.

There are one crore cable TV connections in Tamil Nadu.  Of these, 25 are owned by government owned TACTV. We are taking necessary steps to increase it to 50 lakh connections.  TACTV  collects a monthly fee of Rs 165 only for providing cable TV connections.  Other private cable companies charge more for such connections.

So,  if people want to get TACTV connections in any area,  the cable TV operators should provide it. Otherwise, action would be taken. In TACTV, whole Assembly proceedings were telecast. But, it could not be seen in private operators (MSO) channels , he noted. But, TACTV could not compel them to telecast assembly proceedings fully,  he asserted.

Once 2 full-fledged Kalvi channel is started by the government  TACTV would start telecast it.
TACTV increased the wages of its staff by 15 percent recently, he added. If the staff of TACTV's customer service centre approach, their problems including wage revision would be considered, he said.
