The government is planning to hold a trial run of Athikadavu -Avinasi Project Work by December.
The CM MK Stalin inspected the project work at Gray Nagar, Perundurai on Friday.
The project would help drought affected areas in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts.
1.50 TMC excess water from the downstream of Kalingarayan Dam in Bhavani River would be pumped under the project every year goes to nearly 1045 ponds in the 3 districts helping irrigation facilities for the benefit of 24 thousand 468 acres of land in the 3 districts. The project is designed to fill water in ponds.This project was planned during Kamaraj's tenure.
Later, project studies were carried out at various stages. Later, a fund of Rs 1,652 crore was first earmarked for the project during previous AIADMK rule in response to the long-standing demand of the public. Later, administrative approval has been given for a revised estimate of Rs.1,756. 88 cr.
The government started the first-ministerial level study on the project on 28th February 2019. For this purpose, the construction of barrage across the Bhavani river and the construction of water pumping stations at 6 places namely Bhavani, Nallakaundam Palayam, Tiruvachi, Polanayakkan Palayam, Emamboondi and Annur were in progress.
The project is scheduled to be completed and trial run would be held by December. In this situation, the
CM M. K. Stalin visited and inspected the Emamboondi water station set up at Gray Nagar near Perundurai in Erode district yesterday.
He also visited the irrigation structures and the reservoir and the machinery installed there. He then ordered the engineers from the Water Resources Department to complete the work quickly and make it available for public use.
He was accompanied by Housing Minister S.Muthusamy, Information Minister M.P.Saminathan, former Minister Thoppu Venkatachalam, District Collector Krishnanunni, SP Sasimohan and senior government officials.
Following this, the Chief Minister participated in a government function at Perundurai Sarlai. While speaking, he said, 'I visited the Athikadavu-Avinasi project works.
I have directed the authorities to carry out the works expeditiously. I assure all of you that I will come directly and inaugurate the project in a few months after completion of the work.''
