Plan to set up 11 new rice mills under PPP in TN

Eleven new rice mills will be set up in Tamil Nadu under the public private participation (PPP) with a total milling capacity of 5500 metric tons per day,  Food Minister Chakrapani said.
 

He visited a private rice mill and ration shop in Nasianur on Friday.  After conducting a review meeting of his department at Erode District Collectorate, he told reporters  ''Mettur dam was opened for agriculture on May  24 as agaist the normal date of June 12.
 

So, the paddy harvest will start from September 1 and for this we have received order from the Centre to purchase paddy from that date and pay Rs 100 per quintal as additional paddy procurement price to farmers. 
All measures are taken to prevent damage to paddy in rain and send to rice mills for hulling daily. The election promise to provide one kg of urad dal and one kg of sugar at a subsidized price in all ration shops will be fulfilled soon. 
 

Old age pension was stopped for ineligible persons. Eligible persons would get it. Family card was given to 15.54 lakh individuals and poor among them would get 35kg rice under AAY scheme. 
 

Former Chief Minister Edappadi Palanichamy has alleged that nine lakh tonnes of rice is wasted based on a false report in the press but 92500 kg was hit in Kumbakonam. As per the government norms broken rice should be less than 5 percent but the rice has 5.2 percent. Brown rice is only at the specified level of 7 percent. 
 

Notices have been sent to the private rice mills that supplied the rice and get compensation from them. 16 silos with 50000 metric tons and a paddy storage yard constructed at several crores of rupees by previous rule became damaged. 

The Union Food Ministry has appreciated the special PDS in the state. In the last financial year, 41.10 lakh metric tons of rice was procured in the state, including  96535 tons in Erode district. 
 

Centre was giving 5 kg  free rice per family per month. But, TN government was giving more rice. 
Tamil Elderly people who are unable to get products by using biometric 
fingerprinting in ration shops were given a separate certificate to get food without 
fingerprinting. 
 

In Erode district, an highest number of 15185 certificates have been issued.
