Andhiyur Kavyam All People's Development Welfare Association has requested the government to provide agri land to the poor farmers belonging to Andhiyur and Bavani Tamils.
In this regard, the Sangam president M Senthil, secretary R Shekhar, senior members Pachaiyappan Easwaran Sengo and deputy secretary Ravi submitted a petition to the Andhiyur MLA AG Venkatachalam: There is 685 acres of land owned by revenue department is existed in Maathur village, Andhiur taluk in Erode district. It is under the control of forest department. There are no expensive trees, mineral resources or government buildings in the dry land. People go to Veeramati Amman Karuppa Swamy temple there and worship. Over 1500 landless poor farmer members of the sangam in Andhiyur and Bhavani area have demanded the land for the last 35 years for agri purpose.
So, in 1995, the then Erode Collector NS Palaniappan allowed the farmers to use this land but the forest department did not allow them. Many requests were made to hand over the land to the government.
Even recently, petitions were submitted to former Collector Krishnan Unni, Andhiyur MLA Venkatachalam, Assembly Assurance Committee Chairman Velmurugan, Minister Muthuswamy and current Collector Rajagopal Sunkara. We are going to submit a petition to the Chief Minister soon.
Giving the land to the poor will ensure economic development in the backward region. Production of agricultural products will increase. It will create employment opportunities for many families. Therefore, they requested the Chief Minister to kindly consider their petition.
