PM’s Crop Insurance scheme for farmers to be implemented in Tiruvannamalai

A district monitoring committee meeting was held yesterday under the leadership of District Collector D Bhaskara Pandian regarding the implementation of the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) for the 2024-2025 year at the Tiruvannamalai District Collector's office.

During the meeting, the District Collector announced, “A government order has been received to implement the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) for the farmers of Tiruvannamalai district during the current year 2024-2025. The scheme will be implemented by State Bank of India General Insurance Company Limited. The premium amounts and deadlines for various crops have been announced."

The following are the premiums and deadlines of the crop: Paddy: Rs. 690 per acre. Last date: July 15, Manila Bean: Rs. 590 per acre. Last date: July 31, Maize: Rs. 436 per acre. Last date: August 16, Rye: Rs. 272 per acre. Last date: July 31, Samai: Rs. 190 per acre. Last date: August 16.

Crop insurance can be given in the notified areas for each crop. Due to potential low yield from the current year's Kharif cultivation because of insufficient monsoon rains and drought, farmers are encouraged to register under the Kharif season crop insurance scheme. All farmers, including tenants, can be insured under this scheme. Both farmers with and without crop loans can opt for crop insurance by paying the premium for specific crops.

Farmers can approach all Nationalized Bank Branches, Rural Banks, Primary Agriculture Co-operative Credit Societies, and Community Service Centers (CSC) with documents such as Chitta, current year crop yield, Aadhaar card, and bank account book for crop insurance.

Agriculture Extension Centers and State Bank of India General Insurance Company Limited can be contacted for more details.
