Following the information that illicit liquor was being sold in the hill villages of Yercaud, the police led by Salem DSP Thyal Nayaki conducted a raid.
Counterfeit liquor was found and destroyed in several places during the raid. During the raid the police found that Jaganathan, the son of Madhu from Solur village near Semanatham in Yercaud was brewing and selling illicit arrack in his garden.
Police team including Yercaud Sub-Inspector Sabapathy, inspected the garden owned by Jagannathan and found that he had a ferment of 200 liters of liquor in a 200-liter barrel in the garden.
The police then poured alcohol on the spot and destroyed it. Following the disappearance of Jagannathan, the police registered a case against him and the police are searching for the culprit.
