Political parties wave black flags against Governor

Members of various political parties wave black flags against the Governor RN Ravi who was in the city to participate in the 21st graduation day function at Periyar University in the district on Wednesday.
Dravida Kazhagam leader Kolathur Mani had earlier announced that they will register their opposition against the Governor for constantly speaking and spreading sanathana dharma and for interfering in the state government’s duties by staging a black flag protest.
Hundreds of members of various parties including Dravidar Kazhagam, CPI, VCK, MDMK, MMK and Indian Union Muslim League gathered in front of the varsity, and showed black flags and raised slogans against the governor when he reached the university premises around 11 am.
Police arrested several protestors including Kolathur Mani and it has created panic in the district.
Earlier, the university management had prohibited people from wearing black dresses in the campus and the management claimed that they had issued the circular based on the directions of the police department.  However, the department has refuted it. Hence, the circular was withdrawn.
