Students who have completed Polytechnic can directly join the second year of engineering colleges. But such admission at Anna University was suspended. However, Higher Education Minister Ponmudi has said that students of polytechnics at Anna University can join the second year Engineering courses as per the order of the Chief Minister from this year.
Addressing the Assembly today, Higher Education minister Ponmudi said, “In Tamil Nadu, there are a total of 51 government polytechnic colleges, 34 government-aided polytechnics and 40 government affiliated colleges. There are a total of 509 polytechnic colleges, including 406 self-funded colleges.
In Chengalpattu district, there are a total of 5010 seats in private colleges alone. However, only 1,879 people joined. The remaining 3031 seats are still vacant. As the member said, students may not join because the fee is a little high. Even in government polytechnics, the number of students is low. With this in mind, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, in this grant request, announced the creation of 5 new curricula for polytechnic colleges.
More importantly, students who have completed polytechnic can join the second year of engineering colleges. But such admission at Anna University was suspended. As per the order of the Chief Minister from this year, polytechnic graduates from Anna University can join the second year engineering course.
The number of students studying at Polytechnics should be increased. The growth of education depends on teh availability of employment. The Chief Minister has directed the industry, labour welfare and higher education to work together in this regard. Therefore, there is hope that the Polytechnic education will grow in Tamil Nadu in the future. Demands for setting up new colleges based on need will be considered. ”
