The district is getting ready to welcome the country’s first tribal President Droupadi Murmu as she would be taking part in the Mahashivratri celebrations that was scheduled to take place at Isha yoga centre in the city outskirts on Saturday. This is her first visit to Tamil Nadu after she assumed charge as the President.
The district collector Kranti Kumar Pati along with south zone IG R Sudhakar, SP V Badrinarayanan and corporation commissioner M Pratap inspected the arrangements and security preparedness at the yoga centre.
The officials also inspected the routes through which the president would be traveling in the district, the circuit house and the airport. The nightlong festival at the yoga centre would begin at 6 pm on Saturday and conclude after 12 hours at 6 am on Sunday in the presence of Jaggi Vasudev. Arrangements have been made to livestream the celebrations in 21 languages and telecast on all major television networks in English, Tamil, Hindu and other regional languages of the country, French, Chinese and Spanish.
Arrangements have been made to telecast the live event at 32 districts including Madurai, Trichy, Chennai and Vellore in the state. Renowned artists across the country including Rajasthani folk singer Mame Khan, award-winning sitar maestro Niladri Kumar, Tollywood singer Ram Miriyala, playback singers Velmurugan, Mangli, Kutle Khan and Bengali folk singer Ananya Chakraborty would be performing at the event.
Karnataka Janapada and Theyyam troupes would exhibit the folk culture, while Isha Foundation's homegrown brand Sounds of Isha and Isha Samskriti would also be showcased. Mahashivratri has been celebrated consecutively for the past 28 years at the yoga centre. Arrangements have also been made to provide free food to the devotees attending the function.
