A youth-driven climate action initiative titled “Sustainable Sentinels: Empowering Youth for Eco-Action” has been launched at PSGR Krishnammal College for Women to raise awareness on environmental issues and promote sustainable living.
Conducted from September 2023 to August 2025 under the guidance of Assistant Professors of English (SF) K. Gayathri and R. Jayasree, the project adopted a three-stage approach to transform students into proactive environmental advocates.
Of the 351 students surveyed, 100 were chosen and divided into 10 teams. Activities included documenting environmental degradation, seed planting in recycled pots, adopting the Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle principle, gamified awareness sessions, group discussions, oath-taking, and a rally.
Organisers said the initiative has instilled eco-consciousness among students, blending awareness with action to strengthen youth participation in climate change mitigation.
