Lieutenant Governor Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Friday launched the free laptop distribution scheme of the Puducherry Education Department at PM SHRI Maraimalai Adigal Government Higher Secondary School in Embalam.
The scheme was announced by the Chief Minister during his 2025-26 Budget speech. It covers students who studied Class XII in government and government-aided schools in the Union Territory during the 2022-23 academic year and students currently studying in Class XI in the 2025-26 academic year.
In the first phase, laptops were distributed to 377 students of PM SHRI Maraimalai Adigal Government Higher Secondary School, Embalam, 279 students of Kamban Government Higher Secondary School, Nettapakkam, and 46 students of Government Higher Secondary School, Korkadu.
The government has announced that a total of 15,783 students across Puducherry will receive laptops in a phased manner by March. This includes 8,333 students who completed Class XII in 2022-23 and 7,450 students currently studying Class XI in 2025-26 in government and government-aided schools.

Baskar alias Dakshinamurthy, Development Commissioner and Secretary Krishnakumar, Director of School Education A.S. Sivakumar, and senior Education Department officials were present.
