The American Institute of Oncology (AOI) in Coimbatore has set a record by successfully treating a 57-year-old woman suffering from rectal cancer with radiation therapy.
This radiation treatment was given using a modern radiation system called MiVCG. Due to this, the non-cancerous organs surrounding the cancerous tumor were completely spared from the radiation.
Such modern radiation therapy methods help to cure the disease and reduce the side effects of radiation therapy to a great extent.
A 57-year-old woman came for treatment with blood in her stool.
She was diagnosed with stage III rectal cancer after medical examination.
Dr. C. Anbu, Radiation Oncologist, American Oncology Institute (AOI), Coimbatore, said that laser radiation therapy is a tool to achieve permanent cure from cancer. This method not only shrinks the cancer tumor but also helps the treatment to be successful.
Krishnadas, Regional Director, American Institute of Oncology, Coimbatore, said ''our hospital is a pioneer in providing therapeutic approaches tailored to the patient's well-being, creating individualized strategies to address the unique needs of each patient.''
A world-class facility has been developed here in collaboration with Royal Care Super Specialty Hospital, Coimbatore, where we offer a wide range of cancer treatments including chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and more, he added.
