Railway bridge side wall collapses, train traffic on Erode-Karur route hit

Gateputhur  is located near Chavadipalayam on the Erode-Karur route. The Erode-Karur railway line is located through this route. All vehicles, including buses, pass under the Gateputhur railway entrance bridge, which was built many years ago.
The side wall of the railway entrance bridge collapsed at 8:30 last night. No vehicle could ply under the bridge at that time.
Due to this, vehicles, including buses, going on the Erode-Karur route were diverted to a different route.
Similarly, due to the collapse of the side wall, there is a possibility that the gravel and the track will weaken.
Due to this, it was decided not to operate the
train.
In this situation, the train going from Coimbatore to Nagercoil was stopped at Erode.
Railway officials and engineers went to the scene and conducted an investigation. They were involved in removing the fallen wall debris from the road, erecting barriers, and making alternative arrangements so that the gravel and rails are not affected.
Due to this, the train coming to Erode via Karur has been ordered to stop at stations including Karur or Kodumudi. Railway officials said that trains will be operated only after the stability of the bridge is confirmed.
Meanwhile, Salem railway division, in a release today, said: A railway bridge, situated between Erode – Chavadipalaiyam railway stations in Erode – Karur sector, has been reported damaged.   This has affected train services.  Hence, a train service is being operated on a diverted route as detailed below.
Train No.16232 Mysore – Cuddalore Port Express of 24.10.2025, scheduled to run via Salem – Erode – Pugalur – Karur, has been diverted to run via Salem – Namakkal – Karur.
The damaged railway bridge has been attended and, after necessary examination, traffic has been
restored.
Now trains can be operated in Erode – Karur sector, it added.
