Ration shop employees strike enters third day

Many employees of ration shops and cooperative banks across Tamil Nadu are on strike for the third day as per the call of Tamil Nadu Federation of All Cooperative Bank Employees . In this regard, the union state general secretary of the association Kamaraj Pandian and Erode district secretary Mesappan said: Ration shop workers are appointed in far flung area from their locality. Their starting salary is around Rs 6000 per month.Rs 12,000 is given only after one year service. In the seven newly created districts, they are working from one district to another. They should be given an opportunity to work in their respective localities. Non-rationed grocery items, soaps agarbathis etc. are dumped in large quantities in ration shops. But the public does not buy them because the price is higher than the open market. Employees are being penalized for that. Similarly, heavy fines are levied in ration shops if the stock of ration items is low. The workers are given just Rs 1000 as pension. These problems need to be solved. Government should take immediate action on this. Due to the strike, it is now difficult for the public to purchase goods from ration shops and get loans from cooperative societies during Diwali. Taking this into consideration, the government should find a permanent solution to these problems.
