Recommendation will be made to declare Chennimalai as a separate taluk: Collector

Collector Rajagopal Sunkara said that a recommendation will be made to the government to declare Chennimalai as a separate taluk.

Farmers Grievance Meeting was held at the District Collector's Office on Friday under the chairmanship of Rajagopal Sunkara. District Revenue Officer S. Shanthakumar and officials of various departments participated. The Collector said that based on the Forest Rights Protection Act, the district administration has taken some initiatives for the development of the people of the hilly areas.  But without understanding the law, some are posting wrong information on social media. Such activities will create confusion among the people of the forest area. Thus false propaganda should be avoided.

Village councils are made up of all the people in the village as participants. Thus there is no need to establish separate Forest Gram Sabhas. A recommendation will be made to the government to declare Chennimalai as a separate taluk. Gobi RDO will remove the encroachments of the Andyur Periya Lake. Land owners in Thottakombai hill village will soon be given patta. He said that compensation will be given as per the law to those who have given land for Sipcot project.

Responding to the demands of the farmers, the officials said: If the government order on the purchase of sugarcane is issued, the farmers will be approached and cane will be purchased immediately. It has been brought to the attention of the government by the forest department regarding compensation for crop damage caused by wild animals. Steps are being taken to identify the places where silk fabrics are dyed and set up treatment plants in the area.
