The Chennai Meteorological Department has predicted more rains in the Kongu belt due to Cyclone Fengal, which recently made landfall.
Cyclone Fengal crossed the coast near Puducherry on November 30 between 10:30 and 11:30 PM, bringing heavy rainfall to surrounding areas.
Villupuram district's Mailam region recorded the highest rainfall at 51 cm, followed by Puducherry with 49 cm, and Batukannu with 45 cm. Other notable rainfall measurements include Tiruchanur (43 cm), Tindivanam (37 cm), Nemur (35 cm), Vallam in Villupuram district and Bagur in Puducherry (32 cm each). Semmade received 31 cm, Valavanur and Koliyanur recorded 28 cm, and Villupuram itself registered 27 cm. Senchi and Kedar saw 25 cm each.
The cyclone, which initially lingered near Puducherry, has since moved westward and weakened into a depression. Despite this, heavy to very heavy rains are forecasted for the districts of Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, and Erode.
A red alert has been issued for Nilgirs and Coimbatore. Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Theni, Trichy, and Madurai districts.
