The Greater Chennai police has decided to deploy ‘Red button robotic cop’, a robot, at 200 places across Chennai from June. The move is aimed at ensuring the safety of the public, especially women.
The robotic system is designed to function round the clock, and can rotate 360 degrees. It has the ability to cover several meters, and has an easy-to-press red button. When pressed, an alarm will be sent to the nearby police station for immediate help.
It also has various other features like precise location tracking through GPS, and high-quality cameras. When a person is in danger, all he needs to do is press the red button of the robotic system. It will not just alert the nearby police station, but also its loud alarm will attract the attention of others.
The system will also help the cops during the investigations by providing the recorded footage. The robotic system is likely to be installed at places with high footfalls like railway stations, bus stands, shopping malls, religious places, educational institutions, hospitals, and parks in the city.
Pointing out that the system will ensure the safety of women, social activists demand that such a system should be implemented in other parts of the state including Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, and Tirunelveli, as well.
It is one of the great efforts of the state police. Hearty congratulations to the city police commissioner Arun for making this project possible in Chennai with his efforts.
