Around 3 lakh native fish fry were released in Bhavani River to increase production.
A fish fry release scheme is being implemented in Tamil Nadu to protect fisheries and increase domestic fish resources. As part of this, the Fisheries Department in Bhavani Sagar, Erode district, reared native fish fry such as Katla and Roku and released them into the Bhavani River on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Sathy Municipal Council President Janaki Ramasamy.
To increase native fish production and help the livelihood of fishermen, the fish fry raised in the Bhavani Sagar Fisheries Department were brought to Bhavani Sagar, Sathyamangalam and Periya Kodiveri rivers.
Fisheries Department Joint Director Kasinatha Pandian released a total of 3 lakh Katla and Rogu fish fry in the Bhavani River at Bhavanisagar dam Sathyamangalam and Periya Kodiveri. The Fisheries Department said that these fry will grow to one kilogram in 6 months and will then be auctioned to fishermen.
