Report to work without taking leaves: Transport dept to its employees

The transport department has directed its employees not to participate in any strike or take any leaves as their absence causes trouble to the public. Transport employees have been protesting seeking the state government to implement their six demands including a pay scale rise and implementation of the old pension scheme. Recently, a tri-party meeting has been held at the labour welfare department located at TMS shed in the city. Since officials refused to accept all of their demands, the meeting did not go well as expected.
Subsequently, employees announced an indefinite strike from January 9 across the state. The strike announcement has put the government in an awkward state that they cannot operate special buses for the Pongal festival. Meanwhile, transport minister Sivasankar has invited the employees for a talk and assured them to consider their demands. However, transport employees unions refused to withdraw their strike announcement.
The direction from the department has come to ensure that employees report to duty to prevent untoward incidents ahead of the festive season.
