Respect your parents: Former SC Chief Justice advises students

Former Supreme Court Chief Justice P Sathasivam said that students should respect their parents and elders. 
At the graduation ceremony of Nandha Arts and Science College and College of Education, Erode, he presented degrees to 
847 students. He said: Students should know modern technologies. They should gain the willpower to face challenges in life. They should help the country and the needy people as much as they can. The Namma School scheme of the Tamil Nadu government is excellent. Through it, they should help the schools and colleges they studied in as much as possible.
He mentioned the verdicts that he had given during his tenure as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in important cases like-Mumbai bomb blast,  cancelling death penalty to the assassins in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, the NOTA button in the electronic voting machines, the facility to help voters know which symbol they voted for, compensation of up to Rs 10 lakh for manual cleaning by sanitation workers, hiking the 3 percent reservation for the differently-abled to 4 percent, construction of ramps for the differently-abled in government offices, allowing MPs and MLAs to use constituency development funds, and protection of public sector undertakings etc. Similarly, when he was the Governor of Kerala, he announced a prize of Rs 5 crore for the best performing university out of the 13 universities in Kerala and a prize for the best departments. He also mentioned that he came from a farming family after studying in a government school from a rural area and rose to a high position and returned to his hometown of Bhavani Kadappanallur to engage in farming.  Therefore, he advised the students to work for this society as much as possible. College President V Shanmugam, Secretary Nandakumar Pradeep, Thirumurthy, Principals Manoharan, and Padma participated in the program.
