Retd EB engineer, wife sentenced to 5 years imprisonment

A retired chief engineer and his wife were sentenced to 5 years in prison and fined Rs. 1 crore by  Erode court. 
KG Natesan (67) worked as Chief Engineer (Civil) in Erode Electricity Board from 1996 to 2008. DVAC police raided his house in 2008 following a complaint.

It was found that he has more assets in his name and in the name of his wife Mallika (65), who is a private college professor. Rs.2 crore 6 lakh 69 thousand assets have been confirmed. Subsequently, the police registered a case against Natesan and wife Mallika. 

The trial of the case was conducted in the presence of Justice Saravanan in the Erode CJM court. After the final hearing of the case, the judge gave the verdict on Tuesday.  Natesan, who misused his government job and sentenced both 5 years in prison and and slapped a fine of Rs 1 crore  on them. In case of failure to pay the fine, he ordered that both of them should serve another one year imprisonment.  Following this verdict, the police escorted Natesan and Mallika to the Coimbatore jail.
