Rotary Club of Coimbatore hosts marathon for special children

The Rotary Club of Coimbatore SmartCity, in collaboration with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial School for Special Children, organised the Smart Run Marathon on February 23 at VOC Grounds to raise awareness about empowering special children. The event saw the participation of nearly 550 special children, including 25 wheelchair users and children from orphanages.
The marathon was flagged off by A Saravana Sundar, District Police Commissioner, along with Rotary District 3201 District Chief Coordinator Rtn. Padmakumar, Assistant Governor Rtn. MD Kamal Kumar, GGR Rtn. PHF Dr. Rohini Sharma, SmartCity President Nitin Shah, Secretary Jayashree Prasad, and Dr. Jayaprabha, Coordinator of Dr. APJ Memorial Special School.
Sponsored by esteemed partners including Legrand (title sponsor), Lemon Tree Hotels, T & I Global, and Personiv, the event also had Lakshmi Ceramics, Best Corporation, Teknotherm Industries, and Classic Raja Car Decor as silver sponsors.
Under the leadership of Rotary Club of Coimbatore SmartCity President Rtn. PHF Nitin Shah, the event provided 850 breakfasts and lunches to all attendees. Additionally, 500 hampers were distributed to differently-abled children, including a coloring book, crayon box, buttermilk packet, biscuits, notebook, and pencils.
To recognise participation, certificates and medals were awarded to all children, making the event a truly inclusive and inspiring initiative.
