Rs 11.72 Crore Groyne Project Launched At Chinna Mudaliarchavadi

The long-pending demand of fishermen in the 4th ward of Chinna Mudaliarchavadi under Kottakuppam Municipality moved a step closer to reality with the commencement of groyne construction works at an estimated cost of Rs 11.72 crore.

The project, sanctioned under the DMK government after nearly two decades of public demand, was formally launched with a bhoomi pooja and foundation stone-laying ceremony performed by R. Lakshmanan, MLA for Villupuram, in the presence of Municipal Chairman S.S. Jayamoorthy. The MLA inaugurated the works and addressed the gathering.

Earlier, welcoming the recent deposit of Rs 5,000 into the bank accounts of beneficiaries under the Tamil Nadu government’s Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme, Lakshmanan distributed sweets to fisherwomen in the area and conveyed his greetings.

Veerappan, Deputy Organizer of the DMK Fishermen’s Wing and 4th ward Councillor, delivered the welcome address. Vice Chairperson Zeenath Beevi Mubarak, District Fishermen’s Wing Organizer and Chandrayan Kuppam Panchayat President Mani, District Minority Wing Deputy Organizer and Kottakuppam Election In-charge T.M.A. Thamin, former MLAs Pushparaj and Marimuthu, District Medical Wing Organizer Vinobarathi, Municipal Councillors Stalin Sukumar, Shanmugam, Aadhalakshmi Baskaran, Saravanan, Jayasri Sukumar, Mohamed Farook and Zakir Hussain, along with party functionaries, Fishermen’s Panchayat representatives and residents of Chinna Mudaliarchavadi, participated in large numbers.
