A substantial sum of Rs. 70 crore had been allocated for education loans in Salem district by December 2023, benefiting 2,200 students said Salem Collector Dr.R Brindadevi at an Education Loan Mela at the Hanging Garden Multi-Purpose Hall on Thursday (Feb 15, 2022).
Addressing the gathering, District Collector Dr. R. Brindadevi highlighted the significance of the Education Loan Mela, emphasizing its role in facilitating education loans for both existing applicants and those seeking new financial aid. Noting the importance of higher education in societal development, the collector stressed the need to remove economic barriers hindering educational pursuits.
At the event, representatives from 44 banks across the district participated in assessing applications from students.
As a result, Rs. 14.47 Crore worth of education loans were disbursed to 394 students, with plans to extend financial assistance to an additional 200 students by the end of the day.
The event saw the presence of key officials including Corporation Commissioner Mr. C. Balachander, District Rural Development Agency Additional Collector (Development) Dr. Alarmelmankai, District Revenue Officer Dr. P. Menaka, District Industries Center General Manager Mr. Sivakumar, along with regional managers from various banks such as Mr. Rajkumar from Indian Bank, Mr. Saravanan from State Bank of India, Mr. Prince from Union Bank, and Mr. Iljarasu from District Pioneer Bank, among others.
