Rs 83 cr allocated for the reconstruction of Kalingarayan Canal: MP

Erode MP KE Prakash said that the government has allocated Rs 83 crore for the reconstruction of Kalingarayan Canal and Baby Canal of it. 
He opened water from the Kalingarayan Dam next to Bhavani for irrigation in the Kalingarayan Canal yesterday.
At that time, he said: The Chief Minister has ordered to release of  5184.00 million cubic feet of water from Bhavanisagar Dam to the old Kalingarayan canal irrigation areas for 120 days from 16.06.2025 to 13.10.2025. 
With this, 15,743 acres of land in Bhavani, Erode, Modakkurichi and Kodumudi taluks in Erode district will get irrigation facilities.
The water reserve in Bhavanisagar dam is 18.24 TMC, the water inflow is 5962 cubic feet per second, the discharge of water from Arakkankottai Tadapalli canal is 750 cubic feet / second, and the discharge of water in Kalingarayan canal is 500 cubic feet / second. 
At an estimated cost of Rs. 83 crore, a five-kilometer stretch of Kalingarayan canal (KS Nagar - Vendipalayam) will be converted into a cement concrete base. The entire Baby Canal adjacent to the canal in Erode city will be renovated. 
This will prevent the sewage coming into the Baby Canal from mixing with the Kalingarayan canal. 
The sewage coming into the Baby Canal will be treated through the general treatment plant of the Corporation. 
With this fund, the sluices, bridges and inscriptions in the canal will be renovated. 
The work will start in January and will be completed in April, he added.  Erode East MLA Chandrakumar, senior officials of the Water Resources Department Murugesan, Thirumoorthy, Udayakumar and Gopi participated in the event.
