Salem district has set a new record by collecting Rs.2,287 crore through post office small savings schemes in the 2023-24 fiscal year, up from Rs.1,779.24 crore in the previous fiscal year. This achievement underscores the critical role of small savings agents in driving these collections, which significantly contribute to both the local and national economy.
In recognition of their efforts, a ceremony was held on Monday at the Salem District Collectorate, led by District Collector Dr. R. Brindhadevi. During the event, agents who excelled in collections were honored with awards and certificates. Notably, agent K. Velumani was acknowledged for collecting Rs. 71,39,51,200 and maintaining the top position at the state level for four consecutive years.
The District Collector praised the agents for their indispensable service, particularly in educating the public about the importance and benefits of small savings schemes. She emphasized that these schemes not only bolster national savings but also enhance household financial stability.
Dr. Brindha Devi also urged the public to avoid risky investments in private financial institutions, advocating instead for secure investments in government-backed post office savings schemes. The event was attended by Mr. M. Muralidharan, District Collector's Assistant (Small Savings), , other relevant officials, and small savings agents.
