A student of the government tribal residential higher secondary school has qualified for admission at IIT Madras by securing 417th rank in JEE mains examination.
The student – A Rajeshwari, is a resident of Karumandurai near Kalrayan hills in the district.
While her father died of illness in 2023, she lives with her mother Kavitha, sister Jagadeeswari and brother Sri Ganesh.
She has secured 438 marks in class X and 521 marks in class XII examinations. Guided by her school principal, Rajeshwari has been preparing for JEE entrance examination by attending special classes conducted by tribal welfare department and the government training centre in Perundurai in Erode district.
Now, she has qualified for IIT Madras by securing 417th rank in JEE mains. She is currently undergoing counselling for JEE Advanced through Vasuki Foundation of the tribal welfare department at Eklavya model residential higher secondary school.
She aspires to pursue aerospace engineering at IIT Madras.
Learned about Rajeshwari, Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that the state government will bear her educational expenses.
During his visit to Salem, he personally met the girl and distributed a laptop worth Rs 70,000 and sanctioned the construction of her house under a government scheme.
