Salzer Electronics Limited, a leading capital goods engineering company specialising in customised electrical solutions, announced its venture into the Smart Meter manufacturing business in Coimbatore.
The state-of-the-art smart metre factory will be integrated with Salzer's existing Coimbatore facilities, ensuring backward integration for manufacturing essential electrical components. This integration gives Salzer a competitive advantage in terms of cost efficiency, supply chain management, and ensuring the quality of Smart Metres. The move underscores Salzer's commitment to addressing India's increasing demand for innovative energy management solutions.
The new manufacturing plant is projected to have an initial annual production capacity of 4 million smart energy metres, with plans to scale up to 10 million metres in Phase Two. The facility is expected to generate employment opportunities for approximately 1000 individuals at full capacity.
With India witnessing a surge in demand for Smart Energy Metres, estimated at 250 million units initially and potentially reaching 350 million metres in the next three years under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) by the Government of India, Salzer's initiative comes at an opportune time. According to Astute Analytica, the Indian Smart Meter market is forecasted to reach $3.27 billion by 2031, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 34.57% from 2023 to 2031. Salzer Electronics Limited is well-equipped to contribute to the modernisation and enhancement of the country's energy infrastructure to meet this growing demand.
