Secretary visits Kamarajar Port

Dr. Sanjeev Ranjan, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Government of India visited Kamarajar Port on 1st November 2022.  He inspected the various cargo handling terminals of Kamarajar Port. He was apprised of the various on-going construction and development activities in Kamarajar Port. 

The Secretary held a review meeting regarding performance of the Port with its officials.  Shri Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairman cum Managing Director, Kamarajar Port briefed the Secretary about different areas in which the Port is trying to diversify its operations. The CMD also detailed out the connectivity projects undertaken in a big way by Kamarajar Port. 

Kamarajar Port is the youngest amongst the Twelve Major Ports under Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways. With 8 operational terminals for cargo handling and with a capacity of 54.44 MTPA, KPL handled its highest ever cargo throughput of 38.74 million tonnes during the financial year 2021-22 with an increase of about 50% over previous year which is the highest growth rate among all major ports. During the year 2022-23 also, the growth in cargo handling of KPL is about 18% over previous year till September which is again the highest growth rate among all major ports.
