Seventeen Students Turn Authors At Coimbatore Government Arts College

In a proud milestone for higher education and creative writing, seventeen postgraduate students from the Department of English, Government Arts College (Autonomous), Coimbatore, have turned published authors through a unique literary initiative titled A.U.T.H.O.R. 2025.

The two-day workshop, held on September 23 and 24, 2025, at the college’s IAS Hall, marked a historic moment as II M.A. English Literature students transitioned from learners to published writers under expert mentorship.

Among the seventeen new authors, fourteen are women, whose stories explore a wide range of themes — emotional depth, cultural heritage, fantasy, social awareness, and women’s empowerment. A differently abled student also moved the audience with a touching children’s story on the importance of saving money, winning admiration for creativity and resilience.

The A.U.T.H.O.R. 2025 workshop guided participants through every stage of the writing process — from idea generation and drafting to editing and publication — helping several first-generation learners experience the joy of seeing their names in print.

Faculty mentors Dr. G. Subramanian, Dr. A. S. Mohanagiri, Dr. S. M. Syed Hussain, Dr. M. S. Zakir Hussain, Dr. K. Anuradha, and Dr. K. Geetha Swamy provided constant guidance, nurturing literary confidence and craftsmanship among the students.
