The 34th Annual General Body Meeting of the South India Spinners Association (SISPA) was held this morning at Hotel O by Tamara, Coimbatore.
Outgoing President J. Selvan presided over the meeting, while Hon. Secretary S. Jagadeesh Chandran presented the annual report.
In the election for office bearers (2025–27), R. Arun Karthik, Managing Director of Shanmugapriya Textiles Pvt. Ltd., Udumalpet, was unanimously elected as President. G. Venkatesan (Sounder Textiles, Coimbatore), R. Girirajan (Siruvani Yarns, Annur), and N. Pradeep (Venilakshmi Mills, Coimbatore) were chosen as Vice-Presidents. S. Jagadeesh Chandran will continue as Hon. Secretary, with K. Venkat Subramanian as Joint Secretary and N. Vijayakumar as Treasurer.
The meeting passed 12 important resolutions, including a request to extend the exemption on 11% cotton import duty till March 2026, establishment of Cotton Corporation depots in Tamil Nadu, extension of the cotton lifting period from 30 to 90 days, and a Rs.10 per kg cotton consumption incentive for MSME spinning mills.
Members urged the government to ensure faster refunds of GST input credit, cut industrial power tariffs in Tamil Nadu, abolish network charges on rooftop solar, and withdraw annual tariff hikes by the Electricity Board. The association also welcomed the Union Government’s “Mission for Cotton Productivity” and called for urgent steps to raise yields to 25 quintals per acre through improved seeds, training, and modern practices.
Former SIMA Chairman Dr. S.K. Sundararaman, Managing Director of Shiva Texyarn Ltd., attended as Chief Guest. On the occasion, the “Visionaries of SISPA Award” was presented to past presidents K. Duraisami Naidu and U.G. Kanagaraj.
