Snakebites claim about 50,000 lives every year

In India, snakebite is a major public health concern, claiming about 50,000 lives every year. This high mortality rate is largely due to the lack of public awareness and understanding about snakes.
To improve public safety and reduce snakebite incidents, the Wildlife and Nature Conservation Trust (WNCT) has developed an educational book titled “Knowing Snakes and Making Coimbatore Snakebite-Free”.
This book was released by the following personalities: Pawankumar K. Giriyappanavar, Coimbatore District Collector Venkatesh,  Field Director, Anamalai Tiger Reserve and Conservator of Forests, Coimbatore Circle, Badhrasamy, (Retd.)
District Forest Officer, Thirumurugan, Forest Range Officer, Coimbatore Division The initiative aims to foster coexistence through awareness and make Coimbatore a model for snakebite prevention across Tamilnadu.
