SRCAS students attend training event on advance research equipment in UP

Four students from Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science (SRCAS), Coimbatore, were selected to participate in a prestigious research training program held at Bundelkhand University, Uttar Pradesh. The training, organised by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the Government of India’s Skill Training for Research Innovation and Developing the Entrepreneurship (STRIDE) initiative, aimed to enhance students' research skills and promote innovative thinking.
M Sneha, G Mageswari, and R Subhavarshini, MSc Biotechnology students, along with Ashok SJ from the undergraduate Biotechnology program, were selected after a competitive three-phase interview process. The program, which ran from November 2022 to June 2023, saw participation from 26 students across India, representing states such as Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand.
During the month-long training, which took place from August 1 to 31, the students were trained in handling advanced research equipment.
They learned to identify plant properties, use nanoscience tools, analyse molecules in plants, and measure carbon levels in water. Additionally, the training covered the use of high-tech instruments like the Particles Quantity Measurement System (PQMS), which detects magnetism and electromagnetism.
After successfully clearing examinations post-training, the students returned to Coimbatore, where they were congratulated by D Lakshminarayanaswamy, Managing Trustee of SNR Sons Charitable Trust, and Dr. BL Shivakumar, Principal and Secretary of SRCAS. The training experience is expected to help the students advance their research capabilities and contribute to innovative discoveries in biotechnology.
