Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday made nine announcements including an award in the name of Kalaignar, for the welfare of women cops during the golden jubilee celebration of women cops in the police department that took place at Nehru indoor stadium in the city.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the event, Stalin said, “The state government has started ‘Aval’ scheme to ensure the safety of women. Though the event is named as the golden jubilee function, it is an event to celebrate women. Women should enter politics in a large number. Anna always wanted to see women on the dais.
It was during Karunanidhi’s rule, an act ensuring property rights for women was passed. It is the wish of Periyar to see books in the hands of women rather than utensils.” Pointing out that 35,000 women cops have been functioning in the state, he said that the seed to such a growth was sown by Karunanidhi. “Periyar not just wanted women to read, but also wanted them to take up powerful posts. Karunanidhi created an opportunity for the women to become police,” he said, extending wishes to women cops.
