Stalin announces Pongal gift Rs 1000

Ahead of the Pongal festival, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Friday announced Rs 1,000 and gift hampers to ration card holders. He also announced that Rs 1,000 under the monthly honorarium for women family heads will be distributed on January 10 this month.
Every year the state government has been distributing gift hampers consisting of rice, sugar cane and jaggery for ration card holders. The gift hampers will be distributed to 2.19 crore card holders – rice card holders and refugee card holders – and a sum of Rs 238.92 crore was allotted for the same.

The circular read, “Pongal festival has been celebrated by Tamils in a grand manner as it is considered as their identity and is considered as an opportunity to thank farmers.
The state government recently announced their decision to distribute gift hampers consisting of 1 kg of rice, 1 kg of sugar and a sugar cane to ration card holders.
Due to prior arrangements, saree and dhotis that are to be distributed along with rice and sugar, are ready, and are sent to each district.”
“To celebrate the festival in a grand manner, cash worth Rs 1,000 will be distributed to central and state government employees, income tax payers, employees of public sector companies, sugar card holders and everyone else through ration shops ahead of the festival.
Since the festival falls on January 15, funds under monthly honorarium for women family heads will be distributed on January 10,” it added.
