Statue for Marx in Chennai, memorial hall for Mookiah Thevar to be build in Usilampatti

Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday announced in the assembly that his government will erect a statue for Karl Marx in the city, and a memorial hall in Usilampatti to honor PK Mookiah Thevar.
Stalin made two important announcements in the assembly under rule 110. While making the first announcement, he said, “This Dravidian model government wants to honour and respect the great genius, Karl Marx. He called for the union of workers across the world, and gave the philosophy of communism across the world. He sowed the seeds of belief that there is nothing to lose, but a world of gold to gain.”
“Karl Marx wrote that no matter how politics has changed in India’s past, the social situation has not changed. Whatever the case, we can confidently expect that that great and attractive nation will one day be revived. That is why Thanthai Periyar first translated the Communist Manifesto in Tamil and published it in 1931. I am proud to announce in this Assembly that a statue of such a genius, Marx, will be erected in Chennai. I consider it appropriate that his statue should be erected in this city, where the trade union movement flourished a hundred years ago,” he added.
Talking about PK Mookiah Thevar, Stalin said that he was born on April 4, 1923, in Usilampatti, Madurai district. Mookkaiya Thevar won the Usilampatti constituency in the elections of 1957, 1962, 1967, 1971, and 1977. He also contested and won the Ramanathapuram parliamentary election in 1971. He won consecutively from the same constituency and grew into a people's hero,” he recalled.
“Mookkaiya Thevar supported Perunthakai Anna during the change of government in 1967. At that time, he was the temporary speaker of the assembly and administered the oath of office to the members of the assembly. He was the one who raised the voice against the Katchatheevu agreement in the Parliament, and requested Anna to establish educational institutions for the people of the Thevar community. That is why government colleges were established in Kamudi, Usilampatti, and Melaneelithanallur,” he added.
He said that his government would construct a memorial hall in Usilampatti to honor Mookiah Thevar.
