Street Play in Coimbatore Highlights Safety of Women and Children

An awareness program to eliminate violence against women and children was organized today at the Coimbatore Railway Junction under the Protect Girl Child and Educate Girl Child project.

District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, IAS, attended the program and encouraged the participants. The event was held on behalf of the Department of Social Welfare and Women’s Rights, aiming to sensitize the public to critical issues affecting women and children.

The highlight of the event was a street play performed by students of PSG Arts and Science College. The play depicted various social concerns such as domestic violence against women, harassment due to dowry demands, sexual assault, child marriages, and the legal protections available to women in distress. The students used engaging dialogues and impactful performances to drive home the message that violence and discrimination should be opposed at every level of society.

District Social Officer Ambika, Coimbatore Railway Station Director Sachin, and Deputy Station Manager (Business) Satish were present at the venue. They praised the efforts of the students in using art and performance as a medium to reach out to the public.

A large number of college students and general public gathered to watch the street play. The performance drew attention to the importance of community involvement in safeguarding women and children.

Officials said that similar awareness programs are being conducted in different parts of Coimbatore district to build a safer environment for future generations.
