Subhanshu Shukla and his team, who were conducting research from the International Space Station, safely returned to Earth aboard the Dragon spacecraft. The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft landed in San Diego, California at 3 pm Indian time.
Subhanshu Shukla spent 18 days on the International Space Station and successfully completed seven microgravity experiments provided by ISRO.
Subhanshu Shukla, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was born on October 10, 1985. He joined the Indian Air Force as a fighter pilot in 2006. Subhanshu has flown various fighter aircraft including the Shu-30 Virami, VVIP-21, VVIP-29, Yinirikshi, and Pinishli, and has about 2,000 hours of experience flying fighter aircraft.
Shukla, who received an invitation from ISRO in 2019, was also included in the astronaut selection process by the Institute of Space Medicine (ISME). Later, Subhanshu Shukla was given all the training to become a full astronaut (in 2020 and 2021) at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Moscow, Russia. After undergoing a series of trainings, Subhanshu Shukla, who became a full astronaut, traveled to the International Space Station under the Axiom-4 project.
With this successful space mission, Subhanshu Shukla has created history by becoming a space hero and the first Indian to return to the International Space Station.
Crores of people across the country watched live to congratulate him on his safe return to Earth. President Murmu, Prime Minister Modi and many other leaders have also congratulated Subhanshu Shukla for making India proud.
SpaceX praised the successful mission, saying, "This successful mission demonstrates India's collaboration and leadership in space exploration."
Subhanshu Shukla's mission will be a major milestone for ISRO's Gaganyaan mission to send humans into space. Shukla's mission will also help India's indigenous spacecraft manufacturing. Subhanshu Shukla has also inaugurated India's future space chapter.
