SVPISTM organises textile walkathon

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management (SVPISTM)organized ‘Texcitement’ walkathon celebrating Coimbatore’s significance as the textile hub of India, as part of the 17th edition of ‘Coimbatore Vizha’.

Dr. P. Alli Rani, Director of SVPISTM, presided over the event. The 3 km long walkathon around Race Course themed ‘sustainability intextiles’ was flagged off by the chief Guest Mrs. Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA for Coimbatore (South).

The walkathon started at CSI All Souls’ Church and ended at CSI Matriculation School.  SVPISTM, schools and colleges, Kaumaram Prashanthi Academy (school for special children) participated in the event.
A fashion contest on sustainable costumes was conducted. Contestants wore upcycled costumes made of garment waste, used denim, plant fibres, and crocheted dresses made out of used yarn, waste garbage covers, broken CDs, and materials that consume less water. Best designs were awarded in three categories: male, female and children. Texcitement was intended for creating awareness on the use of sustainable textiles that have zero negative effect on the environment, and reversing the pollution caused by the textile industry.
