In observance of World Nature Conservation Day, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles & Management (SVPISTM) organized an educational visit to the Gass Forest Museum, Coimbatore, for its undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Managed by the Forest Department, the century-old museum named after Horace Archibald Gass, who was the Conservator of Forests in Coimbatore, features an extensive collection of stuffed animals, exotic birds, forest produce, and historical forestry tools, providing students with an in-depth understanding of India's biodiversity and conservation heritage.
The visit underscored the importance of environmental sustainability, biodiversity, and forest conservation.
Students engaged with exhibits on natural fibers, plant-based dyes, wood samples, and eco-friendly materials, drawing direct connections between these resources and their relevance to sustainable textiles and responsible sourcing practices.
